With the weather warming up, I feel like it’s the perfect time to write about clothing for the new season! The temperatures have been all over the place lately, but that's how Texas is… I can’t believe it’s already mid-April. But, since Spring has just officially started, I thought I’d write about a couple of characters that I think represent the style of the season. I only have female characters this time, but I will definitely explore masculine styles in the future!
The characters I chose are from 3 different types of television shows. I think they provide a good variety of what I feel like is trending at the moment. Remember that style is yours (and I'm just someone with opinions), wear whatever makes you comfortable and confident!
1. Flora (Winx Club)
Our first character is from a show that I watched a long time ago. She’s the inspiration behind this list! How can I write an article about spring without bringing up Flora, who is literally a nature fairy?
Flora’s clothing screams Y2K to me. I picked a couple of her outfits that I think show off how consistent her style is. She always looks effortlessly put together.
Flora’s signature colors are green (chartreuse) and pink, sometimes leaning more toward purple. She dresses like an it girl, wearing silhouettes that accentuate her thin waist. (It's an animated show but definitely has unrealistic body standards.)
Clothing-wise, she wears cropped blouses with low-rise bottoms. The flared capris in the second look is visually interesting with the pink fabric around her knee. Her dress has a halter neck design, I feel like this style has the potential to trend again as we approach the warmer months (think tiktok coconut girl aesthetic).
Other things I would like to highlight are the dyed face-framing bangs and the shoes.
Flora’s has the money-piece highlight going on, this style has been said to brighten the face’s complexion and add a glamorous vibe. I love the platform wedges that Flora wears, adding more visual weight at the bottom half and definitely trendy.
Key aspects of Flora’s Style: bright colors, elevated basics
2. Ko Moon-young (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay)
Ko Moon-young is an absolute girl boss from a Korean drama that was released in 2020. Her outfits are refreshing and bold, much like her personality. Her clothing choices are both soft and structured, creating a unique silhouette that she pulls off perfectly.
Ko Moon-young is a big fashionista, and the outfits seen in the drama are evidence of that. I picked three that I especially loved to talk about. Her clothing choices are clean and light, perfect for the spring season.
The first look is the softest, the flowy white gown is soft and flouncy. Accent details on the sleeves draw attention to the waist where a light pink corset-like tank top cinches in, giving her some shape. It seems like something comfortable Moon-young would wear at home.
The other outfits are more structured. Moon-young’s beige dress mimics the structure of a men’s button-down but with added details that make it stand out. Poofy shoulders and the leather belt add a feeling of strength to her look. The baby blue matching set is by far my favorite, the fluffy bouclé fabric juxtaposes the business-like vibe of the blazer and skirt. I might be a bit biased since I love sets, they just make it super easy to put an outfit together.
Key aspects of Moon-young’s style: fun textures, chic vibes
3. Phoebe Buffay (Friends)
This show is a classic! I never got around to watching the whole thing but I do think Phoebe is a style icon. Her style draws lots of influences from bohemian fashion, I feel like her style is boho chic but I’ve also seen it labeled as whimsical-goth.
Phoebe has a playful and fun style that matches her personality. She loves layering pieces, usually adding more textures and hues to a look. I chose these three pictures because it shows off how she does monochrome looks. Especially since she is a fan of long skirts, one color can seem to dominate an outfit. Adding more part make the outfits more interesting.
Phoebe mixes up her looks with different materials: mesh sleeves with the red dress, a chambray shirt tied over a flowy maxi skirt, structured corset over a flowy dress (like Moon-young’s from earlier but it vibes differently!). Phoebe also styles her hair differently, matching the outfit. In the blue look, she does a simple half-tied back to match her laid-back comfortable outfit.
Key aspects of Phoebe’s style: long skirts, lots of accessories
Any thoughts?
I hope this list helped y'all find some inspo for this season. I’m definitely more inspired to incorporate more colors and fun textures into my wardrobe! My style leans more casual or street so analyzing these characters was new and fun.
Thank you so much for reading!
This is my first article ever so I’m open to any suggestions. I have so many other ideas that I’m excited to share, please stay tuned!
